Social Media is a bit deeper than building a large network, bragging and or spamming.  Social Media allows you build a community of like minded individuals who share a common interest or goal. Whether it be free thinkers creating ideas, solutions for challenging problems in today’s world, great minds think alike and a community of brilliant minds can create 
positive change in society.  Great video – Social Media In Plain English.  I see Social Media going through a tremendous transformation which will forever change the way we conduct business, how things are designed, created, and how communities innovate unique solutions to many problems in our world.  It is the largest transformation in the history of the world and it is happening with lightning speed.
